Act one

The builder

A science-loving boy from Delhi who always knew he wanted to build something of his own.

  1. Delhi childhood

A curious student with a sharp interest in science

Growing up in Delhi, Puneet excelled in science. His father encouraged him to study medicine, but Puneet already knew that his real ambition was to build a business of his own.

  2. The journey abroad

From Russia to New York and finally California

After spending time in Russia, Puneet reached New York City and eventually settled in California. There, he began running the toothbrush business his family operated as a contract manufacturer.

  3. The birth of Dr. Fresh

From manufacturing for others to creating his own brand

Puneet wanted to build more than products for other companies. He created Dr. Fresh, invented the Firefly toothbrush, secured 19 major licences, and acquired the iconic Binaca and REACH brands. He also built business and supply relationships across the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom, Russia and the Middle East.

  4. Fourteen years of growth

An American success story built through relentless work

Over the next 14 years, Dr. Fresh grew into a major oral-care company. But the success came at a personal cost: Puneet worked 14 to 16 hours a day, ate fast food, rarely exercised, and spent most of his life behind a desk.

  5. 2011 · EY recognition

Honoured as Entrepreneur of the Year

In 2011, Ernst & Young named Puneet Entrepreneur of the Year. The recognition reflected his ability to build brands from scratch, innovate in crowded categories, and create global supply chains that improved both quality and value.

You are okay today, but you may not be if you do not start taking care of yourself.

Puneet’s doctorThe warning that changed everything, before he turned 40

Act two

The wake-up call

Success had come at a cost. Rebuilding his health brought him back to the traditions he had admired as a child.

  1. Before age 40

Fifty extra pounds and 14 medications

Before turning 40, Puneet had gained more than 50 pounds and was taking 14 medications. A serious hospital visit became his wake-up call.

  2. A return to his roots

    Rediscovering Ayurveda and yoga

The warning drew Puneet back to the Ayurveda and yoga he had admired as a child. He sold his first business and committed himself to rebuilding his health, his habits and his life.

  3. The personal transformation

Learning first and living the change

Puneet enrolled in an Ayurveda and yoga programme and became certified. Through discipline, healthier food, movement and professional guidance, he lost more than 50 pounds and eventually came off the 14 medications he had been taking.

  4. A new man, a new mission

Opening a yoga studio and sharing what changed him

Feeling transformed, Puneet opened a yoga studio. His purpose was no longer only to build a successful company; it was to help make traditional wellness practical and accessible in modern life.

Act three

GuruNanda

One personal ritual, perfected for modern life, and a decade of refusing to give up.

  1. The idea behind GuruNanda

A personal experience with oil pulling

While studying Ayurveda, Puneet turned to oil pulling for his own oral discomfort. Impressed by his personal experience, he began perfecting the practice for modern consumers and selling oil pulling products on Amazon in the United States.

  2. Ten years of persistence

Perfecting the product while refusing to give up

For nearly a decade, Puneet worked to improve GuruNanda and convince Americans to try an unfamiliar Ayurvedic ritual. By 2022, after years of slow progress, he was close to shutting the business down.

  3. 2022 · The turning point

    One customer video changed everything

A customer posted a TikTok that went viral. Instead of treating it as luck, Puneet treated it as a signal. He committed himself to TikTok, then expanded to Instagram and YouTube, learning the language of social media from the ground up.

  4. From virality to scale

    Social commerce became omnichannel growth

Puneet mastered the new rules of social commerce, helping GuruNanda become a number-one seller on TikTok Shop. That momentum spread to Amazon and Walmart, turning online attention into nationwide retail demand.

  5. 2024 · Second EY win

A rare recognition across two entrepreneurial chapters

EY honoured Puneet with its Entrepreneur of the Year award 2024, a second win and an uncommon distinction in the award’s 40-year history. The first award recognised Dr. Fresh; the second celebrated the remarkable rise of GuruNanda.

Act four

Today

Bridge the gap: ancient wisdom and modern clinical science, in exceptional, affordable wellness for communities the big brands often overlook.

  1. The founder’s role today

Storytelling, innovation and the calls that matter most

Puneet now focuses his energy where he creates the greatest impact: podcasts, social media, product innovation and select major sales relationships. He has delegated the rest to a trusted team that can build at speed.

  2. GuruNanda today

Innovation, value and control under one roof

GuruNanda grew rapidly into a vertically integrated manufacturing and distribution operation in Southern California, about 30 minutes from LAX. Puneet combines product innovation, in-house manufacturing and supply-chain discipline to challenge market prices while protecting quality.

  3. Beyond business

Sharing knowledge and creating social impact

Known to many as Dr. Fresh, Puneet is invited to speak at universities including USC and Chapman. He also supports philanthropic initiatives, carrying his mission beyond products and into education, opportunity and community impact.
